On August 21st, the St. Petersburg Opera Guild launched its donor support drive to continue its sponsorship of vocal competition scholarships for music students-High School and College/Young Professionals- and support of the St. Petersburg Opera Company's education outreach programs to schools in the community. The Guild is asking members and supporters to match the $10,000 already pledged by the Guild Board of Directors and its “Silver Bells” fundraising committee. Due to the ongoing COVID 19 crisis, the guild's annual December “Silver Bells” fundraiser has been cancelled.

For many of the winners at the College/Young Professional level, the scholarship was life-changing: “ Winning first place in the 2019 St. Petersburg Opera Guild Competition was a fantastic honor for me! I've finished my tenure as a Studio Artist at the Florida Grand Opera, and have joined the roster of Piper Artists Management!”-Mariya Kaganskya-mezzo-soprano. “ Winning the vocal competition not only helped me build my resume and build great new friendships, but it helped me tremendously with my European audition tour! I've had the opportunity to sing for opera houses and agents in Europe with the aid of the Opera Guild. I am forever grateful.”-Betsy Diaz-soprano.

Since 1965, the St. Petersburg Opera Guild has raised thousands of dollars to support scholarships for the hopes and aspirations of young singers, and has also raised funds to help support the St. Petersburg Opera Company's educational outreach to schoolchildren in the community. From 2016, The Guild has been a proud co-sponsor of the SPO's inaugural children's opera “Pinocchio”.
