EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS DRILL SCHEDULED AT ST. PETE-CLEARWATER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (PIE) on August 18th

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) will conduct an Emergency Preparedness Drill on Tuesday, August 18th at 9:00 a.m. Due to COVID-19, the drill will limit participants on-site.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires that all certified commercial service airports conduct a full-scale emergency exercise every three years to assess their emergency response capabilities in the event of an actual air disaster. The drill scenario involves a commercial passenger aircraft experiencing an engine failure and crashing into the runway upon landing.

Agencies involved in the exercise include Airport Rescue and Firefighting, Airport Operations, FBI, Allegiant Airlines, 911, FAA Air Traffic Control, Emergency Services (Municipal Fire/EMS), Law Enforcement, Transportation Security Administration, Medical Director’s Office, Office of Emergency Management, and Red Cross. The exercise will conclude by 11:00 a.m. with additional emergency exercises and evaluations following.

The media’s assistance in alerting the public that this is a staged event would be greatly appreciated.
