College of Business Open House April 23

Three exciting opportunities in one are happening at SPC’s College of Business Open House featuring:

  • Business Expo
  • Risk Management Insurance Career Job Fair
  • Social Hospitality and Tourism Career Expo and Job Fair

The open house will be hosted from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 at the SPC EpiCenter, 13805 58th St. N., Clearwater. Attendees can network with HR professionals from local companies; explore employment and internship opportunities; learn more about SPC business degrees and certificates and how to apply; and meet with faculty, advisors and financial aid and admissions representatives. SPC will host Adjunct Recruitment Career Fair April 26-27

St. Petersburg College is looking for energetic, dynamic and creative people with expertise in their field to join our team of part-time faculty. The college will hold an Adjunct Recruitment Fair, where interested parties can learn about course offerings, meet with program deans and other faculty, and receive assistance filling out the college employment application.

The two-day event will be held at the SPC EpiCenter, 13805 58th St. N., Clearwater:

•            5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 26

•            10 a.m. -1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27

SPC Community Concert Band and Wind Symphony May 2

SPC will host the Community Concert Band and Wind Symphony from 7 – 9 p.m. on May 2 at the Palladium at St. Petersburg College, 253 5th Ave N. The concert will feature guest conductor, retiring Dean Dr. Jonathan Steele.  Admission is free.

Upcoming Drone Certification training at SPC’s Workforce Institute

The Workforce Institute at St. Petersburg College will be offering the following courses in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in April and May.

  • One-Day UAS (Drone) Overview Course from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, SPC St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus, LI-22, 6605 5th Ave N, St. Petersburg. This one-day introductory course includes hands-on flight lessons for students, flight demonstrations and drone displays, FAA airspace regulations, appropriate use of drones, weather topics and resources for drone operators.  Registration can be completed by going to https://bit.ly/2IewIMK
  • Four-week UAS Remote Pilot (Drone) Certificate Prep Course on May 8 - 29 (class held on four consecutive Wednesday) 6 - 8:30 p.m., SPC EpiCenter, Room 314, 13805 58th St. N., Clearwater.  This four-week, non-degree course is designed to prepare students to pass the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate exam.  The course will include UAS regulations, flight operations and restrictions, emergency procedures, crew resource management, radio communication procedures, aeronautical decision-making and judgement, and maintenance and pre-flight inspection procedures.   • Six-week UAS Video Editing and Production Course on April 23 – May 28 (class held on six consecutive Tuesdays) 6 - 8:30 p.m., SPC EpiCenter, Room 306, 13805 58th St. N., Clearwater. This course provides video professionals, at the introductory level, with the comprehensive skills they need to import, edit and encode video projects using Final Cut Pro X.  The course will also cover pre-production areas such as determining client needs, shot lists and storyboarding, and obtaining licenses, permits, and waivers prior to filming. Through instructor-led demonstrations and exercises, you will learn how to edit video, add video effects and titles, and export your finished video.  Registration can be completed by going to bit.ly/2TWQY7X

Career opportunities for students with drone training include business/entrepreneurship, military drone pilot, firefighter, disaster relief, search and rescue, law enforcement, oil and gas operations, border patrol, agriculture, package delivery, forestry, engineering, computer science, real estate, film and photography, and other industries.
