Middle and high school males gain keys to manhood through education (Flyer attached)

In an effort to eliminate the academic challenges middle and high school male students experience, St. Petersburg College and community leaders are providing resources through the Keys to Manhood Seminar. This seventh annual seminar for men will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the SPC Allstate Center, 3200 34th St. S., St. Petersburg.

This year, several graduating high school seniors will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to St. Petersburg College and one participant will win a grand prize award. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Koco Eaton, the orthopedic surgeon for the Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Rowdies.

SPC celebrates National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month

St. Petersburg College celebrates National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month in February, also referred to as Workforce Education. Recently, Governor DeSantis announced his intent to make Florida number one in Workforce Education by 2030. Workforce Education is a short-term training alternative that prepares students to enter high-wage, in demand careers, such as Information Technology, Health Sciences, Advance Manufacturing and more.

Student Musicians and Performers needed for Art & Music Festival (Flyer Attached)

Share your talent with the community at the Good Vibes Only Art & Music Festival on Saturday, April 6. The festival, a joint venture between St. Petersburg College and USF St. Petersburg, is a celebration of student art and music. Student musicians, bands and visual artists can apply to participate in the one-day event from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Williams Park, 350 2nd Ave N., St. Petersburg. Dementia Caregivers Are Focus of SPC Conference

The Fifth Annual Caregivers Conference at St. Petersburg College will offer a look at how dementia sufferers can benefit from re-experiencing 1950s small-town America and how their caregivers can benefit from 21st century technology. Preparing caregivers for the Future is the theme of the conference, which will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 22 in the Digitorium at SPC’s Seminole Campus, 9200 113th N. The conference is hosted by the SPC Institute for Strategic Policy Solutions and co-sponsored by Maria’s Adult Day Care Center and AARP Florida.  Piano Recital with Sean Kennard on March 8 (Flyer Attached)

St. Petersburg College will host a piano recital with Sean Kennard at 7:30 p.m. on March 8 at the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus, Music Center, 6605 5th Ave. N. Kennard has won top prizes in competitions around the world, including the Queen Elisabeth Competition of Belgium.  Admission is $10 at the door and is free for SPC students and employees with an ID.

Upcoming drone certification training at SPC’s Workforce Institute

The Workforce Institute at St. Petersburg College will be offering the following course in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in February.

  • Four-week UAS Remote Pilot (Drone) Certificate Prep Course on Feb. 21 – March 21 (class held on four consecutive Thursdays) 6-8:30 p.m., SPC Epicenter Campus, Room 312, 13805 58th St. N., Clearwater. There will be no class on Thursday, March 14 due to the college being closed for Spring Break. This four-week course is designed to prepare students to pass the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate exam.  The course will include UAS regulations, flight operations and restrictions, emergency procedures, crew resource management, radio communication procedures, aeronautical decision-making and judgement, and maintenance and pre-flight inspection procedures. Career opportunities for students with drone training include business-entrepreneurship, military drone pilot, firefighter, disaster relief, search and rescue, law enforcement, oil and gas operations, border patrol, agriculture, package delivery, forestry, engineering, computer science, real estate, film and photography and other industries.
