Veterinary program is changing from Technicians to Nurses

As a profession, veterinary practices struggle with conveying to the public the critical role veterinary nurses play in providing quality and compassionate medical care as a valued part of the health care team.  The Veterinary Nurse Initiative is a national movement to support a standard title and credential for veterinary technicians. In an effort to support, St. Petersburg College will rename its program from the school of Veterinary Technology to the College of Veterinary Nursing.

SPC is also changing the name on the building at 12376 Ulmerton Road in Largo that houses the program: The SPC Veterinary Technology Center will change its name to SPC Veterinary Nursing Center on Jan. 31.

“We believe that changing our program title to the College of Veterinary Nursing will enhance the professional status of veterinary nurses throughout the United States and support the Veterinary Nurse Initiative,” said SPC Veterinary Nursing Acting Associate Dean Cynthia Grey.
