Sold Out Greenhouse Program to Support Nonprofits
Ice House Entrepreneurship Program sponsored by Community Foundation of Tampa Bay

May 9th, 2018 | St. Petersburg, FL – In partnership with the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, the St. Petersburg Greenhouse will host a sold out 8-week Ice House Entrepreneurship Program to aid in identifying new revenue opportunities for existing nonprofits in the greater St. Petersburg area.

Beginning on May 8th, Ice House Entrepreneurship Program participants will become more empowered and engaged by developing entrepreneurial attitudes, behaviors, and skills; identifying social and situational factors that encourage or inhibit entrepreneurial behavior; identifying, evaluating, and validating opportunities in ambiguous, real-world circumstances and identifying and interacting with entrepreneurs who provide critical guidance and ongoing support.

The Greenhouse, a partnership between the City of St. Petersburg and the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, recognized the need for a nonprofit focused program to instill an entrepreneurial mindset in nonprofit leaders to promote empowerment and innovation.

Sean Kennedy, Vice President of Entrepreneurship and Community Development at the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Co-Manager of the St. Petersburg Greenhouse said, “Our mission is to support the community’s businesses and entrepreneurs, and nonprofits are a huge part of that. This program represents an opportunity to bring more resources to the nonprofit community and help them serve the community better.”

St. Petersburg is home to hundreds of nonprofit organizations that are addressing the world’s greatest social, environmental, and economic challenges yet are often operating in resource-constrained environments. Nonprofit leaders and employees are required to be resourceful with time, money, and people to advance their cause. Yet, heavy reliance on volunteers and grant funding can be a challenge that will require a new focus on innovative ways to drive sustainability.

The Ice House program is the solution: An entrepreneurial mindset can drive innovation in nonprofits by providing a new framework for thinking and acting. It can empower nonprofit leaders and employees to recognize opportunity, remain adaptable through setbacks, and become effective problem solvers in resource-constrained environments. Entrepreneurial nonprofits are resourceful with time, people, and money and find innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing problems.
