Chitlin' Circuit to Rock n' Roll!
The First Rock n' Roll Happy Hour with the Historian is Thursday, April 5 with the Rev. Billy Wirtz

St. Petersburg, FL (April 2, 2018) – It's taken 96 years, but the first rock n' roll Happy Hour with the Historian makes it way to the St. Petersburg Museum of History Thursday, April 5.

Shake, Rattle & Roll - the Chitlin' Circuit and the Birth of Rock n' Roll is a celebration of the birth of Rock n' Roll with a cast of diverse characters from Boogie Woogie piano players to legendary guitar gods.

Using video, audio and live piano examples, Rev. Billy Wirtz shares stories of how Boogie Woogie and the Blues left the lumber camps, blazed the famed Chilin' Circuit through the segregated south and evolved into Rock n' Roll.

Small independent record labels found themselves selling thousands of these records to white teenagers throughout the South and eventually England. The birth of this music changed Western Culture in the years that followed.

The Rev. Billy Wirtz is a blues musician and comedian whose material is usually set to music. Wirtz has been featured on NBC, USA Network, and WMNF 88.5FM.

Celebrating 96 years of sharing stories of the Sunshine City, the St. Petersburg Museum of History is proud to welcome Rev. Billy Wirtz and Shake, Rattle & Roll on Thursday, April 5 at 6pm.

Presented by Green, Henwood & Hough Investment Group of RBC Wealth Management, this lecture series is presented numerous times a year to standing room-only crowds. Admission is a $5 suggested donation to the Museum of History.

The St. Petersburg Museum of History is located at 335 2nd Avenue NE on the Pier Approach. Hours are 10am-5pm Monday-Saturday and Noon-5pm on Sundays. For more information, please call 727.894.1052 or visit
