College of Education Open House and Career Exploration

St. Petersburg College is hosting a College of Education Open House and Career Exploration from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at SPC Clearwater Campus, ES 104, 2465 Drew St. Attendees can:

  • Speak with COE advisors, faculty, and students
  • Explore scholarship and financial aid opportunities to help with tuition
  • Get assistance with submitting your application for admission
  • Discover local job opportunities
  • Learn about all of SPC's College of Education degrees and certificates
  • Explore the online education degrees and certificates that we offer
  • Receive information about the General Knowledge Test requirements
  • Attend a breakout session (Admission Information and Pinellas County Schools Employment)

Upcoming PLCs and Drone Certification training at SPC’s Workforce Institute

The Workforce Institute at St. Petersburg College will be offering the following courses in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in February.

  • Programmable Logic Controllers Certification Course on Feb. 5-March 4, 2018.  PLC Technicians install and repair industrial electronic equipment including I/O networks, data highways and variable speed drives, process control equipment, and write PLC programs for a wide variety of automated control systems, ranging from simple on-off controls to robotics. The 30-hour SPC Workforce Institute PLCs Certification Program is a hybrid program providing 12 hours of online courseware, 15 hours of intensive hands-on lab activities, and three hours of online preparation for the Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies (PMMI) exam.  The five day hands-on lab classes are conducted at BRAAS Company: 230 Douglas Rd, Oldsmar, FL 34677 on Monday 2/19/18 through Friday 2/23/18. 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. lab sessions are available.  Registration can be completed by going to and selecting the date and lab session that you would like to attend.

  • Four-week UAS Remote Pilot (Drone) Certificate Prep Course on Feb. 20-March 20, 2018 (class held on four consecutive Tuesdays) 6-8:30 p.m., SPC Epicenter, Room 1-314, 13805 58th St. N., Clearwater, FL 33760.  No class on 3/6/18 due to Spring Break.  This four-week course is designed to prepare students to pass the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate exam.  The course will include UAS regulations, flight operations and restrictions, emergency procedures, crew resource management, radio communication procedures, aeronautical decision-making and judgement, and maintenance and pre-flight inspection procedures.  Registration can be completed by going to   Career opportunities for students with drone training include business-entrepreneurship, military drone pilot, firefighter, disaster relief, search and rescue, law enforcement, oil and gas operations, border patrol, agriculture, package delivery, forestry, engineering, computer science, real estate, film and photography, and other industries.
