Mesh and SPDNA replace benches at St Pete Shuffleboard Club

“St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club Receives Donation of New Benches”

Thanks to the combined efforts of the St. Petersburg Downtown Neighborhood Association, Pinellas Paint and Chamber Member Mesh Architecture & Fabrication, there are dozens of brand new green benches at a favorite local landmark.

The St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club needed to replace 170 benches at their facility and went to the SPDNA for assistance. Gary Grooms, CEO of Mesh, offered to spearhead the construction and installation using Mesh staff as volunteers. Lumber was purchased by Mesh and a great deal of green paint was donated by Benjamin Moore with Pinellas Paint, in Pinellas Park. Christine Page of the SPSC said to Grooms, “I can’t thank you enough for all Mesh is doing and contributing toward the bench project.”

Cutting, drilling and painting began on Saturday September 17th at Mesh Fabrication with over 20 staff volunteers. The freshly painted slats are now attached to the existing metal frames at the Club.

Gina Driscoll of the SPDNA said,” We’re always looking for ways to make downtown an even better place in which to live, work, and play. The historic Shuffleboard Club has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years, but needed repairs. It was a pleasure to contribute our time and resources to the bench restoration project, which will help to preserve part of our downtown’s proud history and ensure it can be enjoyed for years to come.”

Installation of the completed benches took place on Sunday October 16th at the Shuffleboard Club located at 559 Mirror Lake Drive North. Over 80 SPDNA, Mesh Volunteers and Club Members participated in completion of the project.
