Candidate Forum: Congressional Seat 13 and Pinellas County School Board at large-district 1 report card

(St. Petersburg, FL)- The NAACP St. Petersburg Branch #5130 in conjunction with partners ZUO Chapter Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity hosted a Candidate Forum for the Congressional Seat 13 and Pinellas County School Board at large district 1 on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Campbell Park Elementary, 1051 7th Ave. S, St. Petersburg, FL 33705.

School board district 1 candidates Joanne Lentino and Dr. Matthew Stewart and Congressman David Jolly (R-13), who’s running for re-election, participated. Dr. Chris Warren will served as moderator.

The community of approximately 100 had an opportunity to ask their questions after the candidates fielded questions by the NAACP.

In an earlier release, President Maria L. Scruggs said this election like all others are crucial to the African American community. Scruggs stated at the forum that she loved all of the candidates but for them to be forewarned that the NAACP intends to hold whomever is elected accountable. Scruggs further emphasized the importance of organizations like the NAACP offering the community opportunities to move beyond the political pandering which occurs too often in the African-American community and create opportunities for the community to engage candidates up close and personal.

The NAACP nor any of its partners endorse candidates, however, the NAACP traditionally issues a candidate report card based on the candidate's responses to questions from the NAACP. Raters were represented from each of the partner organizations. A copy of that report card is attached.
