Experience the experience: STAND-UP with “ranney.”
“ranney” has headlined internationally from Dublin’s Comedy Cellar and London’s The Comedy Store to New York’s The Apollo; he has twice taken shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the largest performing arts festival in the world.
"Impeccable; he's a master of rhythms, of energy, of vocal dexterity, all artfully employed to compelling effect," says Steve Bennett of The United Kingdom's Comedy Chortle. "The way he uses language is unmatched...he passionately sets out his own world view, simultaneously apocalyptic and uplifting. It's complex, dizzying and cathartic, a universal theory attempting to make sense of all that's going on in the world."
“ranney” cultivates a supplemental world with transcendental humor and explicit intangibles brewing a unique and authentic comedy experience. Either you’ve never seen his severely observational stand-up with insightful storytelling and hysterically accurate characters; or, you have seen his meshwork of hip neuropsychological, surreal pop-culture punditry, and silly mysticism. He uses well crafted stand-up as a springboard to hilarious and transcendental moments like a comedic John Coltrane.
A nominee for Best International Poet by London’s Farrago Poetry Group, “ranney” has been named Best Actor and nominated for Best Comedian by Tampa Bay’s Creative Loafing. He was awarded Best Featured Actor (2014 and 2015) and Outstanding Lead Actor (2016) by the Tampa Bay Theatre Alliance. “ranney” has mounted nine one-man shows and was a member of the award-winning quintet in The Bomb-itty of Errors on London’s West End. “ranney” is the resident stand-up comedy instructor at Patel Conservatory, the educational institute at the world class David A. Straz, Jr. Center of the Performing Arts in Tampa and is currently an associate artist with Jobsite Theater. “ranney” is the founding producer of The Unusual Suspects of Comedy and Stand-up Here: A Night of Comedy at the Straz. Also known as The Illuminatus of Comedy and Mr. FunnyBlackMan, he is eclectic, grounded, and hilarious with his own whimsical and mythical lingo. The cosmic nudge that “ranney” gives us is that the ordinary and surprising should never be regarded as mutually exclusive. Come join us for STAND-UP with “ranney.” What a fun night it will be.
