TAMPA BAY AREA GOVERMENTS AGREE TO MOVE FORWARD ON CROSS-BAY FERRY

(St. Petersburg, FL) – On Tuesday, August 9, the Pinellas County Commission became the fourth and final government to approve the interlocal agreement for a cross-bay ferry pilot program. The other three partner governments – the City of St. Petersburg, the City of Tampa, and Hillsborough County – approved the agreement, proposed by St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, earlier.

Said Mayor Rick Kriseman: “This is a shining example of the progress our region can make when we work together. I want to thank each of our partner governments for entering into this agreement and for helping to better connect residents on both sides of Tampa Bay. While this is not the answer to our area’s mass transit challenges, it does allow us to test one piece of the puzzle: water-based transportation.”

The ferry will arrive in the Tampa Bay region in late October. Service is expected to begin in November.
