Local artist and author host story time session to benefit sea turtle program

Clearwater, FL (July, 29 2016) – On Saturday, August 13th, Safety Harbor Public Library will host author David Kinne and artist Dino Kotopoulis for a special reading and signing of Captain Tortuga and the Treasure of Sand Key to promote the education and conservation of sea turtles. The event begins at 11:00am and is free to the public.

Author David Kinne has been an employee of Clearwater Marine Aquarium for several years, contributing to multiple departments to increase awareness of the rescue, rehabilitation, and release work conducted by the aquarium’s team. His book, Captain Tortuga and the Treasure of Sand Key, explains the exciting journey of Lily, a loggerhead sea turtle, and teaches children what they can do to help protect her species. Beautifully illustrated by Dino Kotopoulis, the book is a welcome addition to any family collection.

The story featured in Captain Tortuga and the Treasure of Sand Key highlights the diligent work of Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s sea turtle team. This year in particular has been especially intense for CMA. During the winter, the marine life hospital took in over 150 sea turtles for rehabilitation due to exceptionally cold weather patterns. The sea turtle nesting season has also been record-breaking, with more than 232 nests now under the watchful eye of the CMA team.

At the reading, Captain Tortuga and the Treasure of Sand Key will be available for purchase, with all proceeds benefitting Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

Location: Safety Harbor Public Library, 101 2nd Street North, Safety Harbor, FL 34695
