Free Active Shooter Community Training Program Offered July 28

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (July 15, 2016) - The city of St. Petersburg Police and Fire departments will host a free community training program on what to do if an active shooter threatens your workplace, campus, shopping center, or other public area on Thursday, July 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Coliseum, 535 Fourth Ave. N.

Taught by a St. Petersburg police department instructor, the course will provide strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. The course is designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERT) Center at Texas State University.

The free program is open to everyone; however, seating is extremely limited and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Children are welcome to attend, but parental guidance is strongly recommended as parts of the presentation contain material some viewers may find sensitive.
