Contact: Kitty Rawson, Communications and Development Coordinator

St Petersburg, FL – 06-10-2016

A single dad loses his job and temporarily moves in with his mom. A teenager lands employment with the Tampa Bay Rays and needs help navigating the process of applying for a personal ID card. A grandmother raising three grandchildren needs a grocery boost to make it to the end of the week.

These are all people recently finding help at Daystar Life Center, 226 6th St. S. St. Petersburg. The non-profit - where 96 cents of each $1 donated goes directly to client services - offers a variety of ways to get past a rough time. Basically, Daystar is there to meet basic needs for families and individuals during a crisis but it's also there to guide clients towards a better life.

Daystar is itself in need of volunteers to assist in numerous helping hand tasks. The next volunteer information session is at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2016. Daystar is conveniently located in downtown St. Petersburg at 226 6th St. S.

Services include: food pantry, clothes closet, local transportation, utility assistance, rent/mortgage assistance, Travelers Aid, personal ID, hygiene needs, online benefits assistance, confidential and secure mail service, USDA food distribution and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).
