SPRides Electric Taxi Service Now Running in St. Pete
New Electric Shuttle Service Will Take You Where You Want to Go!

St. Petersburg, FL (June 1, 2016) – St. Petersburg residents and visitors now have a fun, convenient new way to get around town. SPRides electric taxi service was created to fill the increasing need for quick, easy transportation between downtown destinations and adjacent neighborhoods.

Riders can hail the colorfully wrapped SPRides taxis throughout the downtown St. Pete area, or book a ride through A mobile app is in development and will be available in early June. Rides cost $5.00 per person and can be paid with cash or credit card. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. Vehicles can also be rented for private events.

The current service area includes downtown St. Petersburg, plus adjacent areas such as the Edge District, Warehouse Arts District, Historic Old Northeast, Snell Isle and the Crescent Lake neighborhoods. The 6-passenger GEM electric low speed vehicles are state-of-the-art, street-legal and have zero-emissions. All drivers are trained, specially licensed and have passed thorough background checks.

Electric taxi services such as SPRides are popping up across the country, but several including those in Sarasota and Tampa are funded with public dollars. SPRides is 100% privately funded, an important factor for SPRides founders Jim Shatz and Bill Edwards.

“St. Pete continues to grow by leaps and bounds, and the need for a shuttle service was becoming evident,” said Edwards. “Other cities are spending $500,000-$600,000 of taxpayer dollars to start these services, but we did it ourselves, using private money. It’s by far the most fun and convenient way to get around town.”

“We look forward to serving our community with this green initiative with reliable and affordable micro transportation,” added Shatz.
