Tampa, FL, May 16, 2016 –TECO Public Art Gallery is proud to present St. Petersburg and New York based artist Ya La’ford in her first exhibition in Tampa “The Loudest Line: Imaginary Boundaries” opening
June 1 – July 20, 2016. This exhibit explores the sequence of recurring linear and cyclical geometric patterns, composed in an exchange between symbolic trajectories of rings, circles, spheres, and notions of totality, wholeness and infinity. La’ford positions painterly gestures as competitive parallels of life and lines as impacted by motion, movement, time and some faction of energy, affecting individual and collective outcomes. Comprised of large-scale canvases, works on paper and two reflective mirrored installations, featuring La’ford’s signature geometric patterning.

Ya La’ford is a painter, installation, muralist and a social practice artist, as well as a professor who exhibits her work nationally and internationally. Her exciting, large-scale paintings are layered with richly textured paint and embedded with thick, painterly black lines interconnecting through space and color. Her art practice, “Explores journeys, paths, space and time and how objects and perception changes when we move around in space. My work reflects my cultural hybridity. As a first generation American, I move between my Caribbean heritage and vulnerable communities to try to find a universal language.” To that end, La’ford has participated in a number of local, community collaborations including,

- Partnering with The Holocaust Museum, to create a Blue SUN-nel Storytelling Series with her SHINE Mural, an 85 foot, blue lighted tunnel; Her Known Unknown Project, creating community moments photographs to place on display in Pinellas County Urban League, Pinellas County Jail, Pinellas Hope and other safe places. In addition her work has been included for exhibition recently in Miami Art Basel, Harlem Art Flux, Asia Contemporary and the Jamaica Biennial to name a just a few.
