Central Avenue Solstice Returns on September 24, 2016

Last September, thousands of people enjoyed festivities up and down the 7-mile length of Central Avenue in St. Petersburg, from Bay to Gulf, and from sunrise to sunset. The event was the Central Avenue Solstice, and this year, it makes its return on Saturday, September 24, 2016, as part of the St. Petersburg Festival, SPF16.

The event title comes not from a celebration of the longest day of sunshine relative to the equator, but rather, relative to 82? 38´ longitude. That is Central Avenue, the main artery or “zipper” of The Sunshine City itself, St. Petersburg. To commemorate the day, visitors can explore a vast array of activities all along the Avenue, while the sun journeys from east to west directly overhead. It is a full-day celebration of art, culture, music, food, shopping and all the things that make Central Avenue and St. Petersburg such a great place to be.

Festivities begin on the east end at 7:20 am with Sunrise Yoga at South Straub Park, and finish on the west end with St. Petersburg Preservation´s Movies in the Park at Sunset Park on Boca Ciega Bay. In between, the Avenue will be filled with other special activities so that participants can enjoy them at their own pace. There will be a Follow the Sun Walk, a Bay to Gulf Bike Ride, Sunny Side Up Breakfast specials, full schedule of live performances at each of the event´s five Main Stages, and a host of Illuminating Art Demonstrations along the route. All outdoor activities are free, as are trolley rides throughout the day.

Businesses, artists, and volunteers interested in participating are encouraged to sign up now. Please visit www.centralavenuesolstice.com or email Info@centralavenuesolstice.com
for more information.

This event is organized and hosted by the Central Avenue Council, consisting of the Downtown, Central Arts, EDGE, Grand Central, Warehouse Arts, Professional, and West Central Village districts with SPF16 support from the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance.
