Leadership St. Pete® Class of 2016 Hosts Family Fun Day at Shuffleboard Club

APRIL 21, 2016 I St. Petersburg, FL – The Leadership St. Pete® (LSP) Class of 2016 has held a series of fundraising events to achieve their goal of raising $125,000 for improvements to ALPHA House of Pinellas County.  As the final opportunity to give to this worthy cause, Sunday FUN Day at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club, 559 Mirror Lake Drive North takes place on Sunday, April 24th from 1:00PM to 4:00PM.

Sponsored by Duke Energy, Sunday FUN Day will feature a glass-blowing demonstration by David Walker from Zen Glass Studio, face-painting, a firetruck and music, as well as unlimited shuffleboard play.  Children are free for this family-friendly event and $20 per person tickets include adult entry, appetizers/food and two beverages. Additional cash donations will also be accepted.  A silent auction of items and gift cards donated to this year’s LSP Class Project will be on display and all proceeds from the day contribute to the completion of ALPHA House’s renovation.

The renovation includes safe play areas for the babies, more up-to-date security cameras, improved locks on doors, repairs to the perimeter fencing and automatic gate, exterior landscaping and shade in a courtyard gathering area, all to enhance the nurturing environment.

ALPHA House provides housing and supportive services to homeless pregnant women and teens, new mothers with infants, and families experiencing crisis pregnancies. The 35-member LSP group chosen for this year agreed this cause strengthens the St. Petersburg community by providing a safe environment for future citizens to thrive during these most fragile moments of their lives.  Since 1979, ALPHA has served more than 3,000 women, teens and infants annually. About 90 percent of those who have gone through the ALPHA House program made a successful transition into permanent housing and independent living.

The LSP Class of 2016 is still seeking donations from individuals and businesses to contribute to the young women and their children currently residing at ALPHA House.  Send tax deductible funds to the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce at 100 2nd Avenue North, Suite 200, St. Petersburg, FL 33701 ATTN: Brittany Walsh. Please make checks payable to LSP Project or donate online at stpete.com/alpha. Another funding site has been established at https://www.youcaring.com/alpha-house-527033.
