SPC expands Weekend College offerings

St. Petersburg College has added two programs that can be completed entirely on the weekends through its Weekend College. This option gives students an additional way to earn their degree if they cannot attend classes during the week. Classes are offered online and at a variety of times, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoons, on the Clearwater Campus. The new programs include:

  • The Computer Programming Specialist Certificate – Java subplan is 18 credits and prepares students for careers as computer programmers and industry certification. Tuition covers the exam fee to take the Java Foundations Certified Junior Associate Industry Certification.
  • The Addiction Studies Certificate is a 24-credit program that meets the educational requirements and prepares graduates for the Florida Certification Board exams to become a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC), Certified Addiction Professional (CAP), or Certified Behavioral Health Technician (CBHT).

Both programs can be completed in one year. SPC also offers the Associate in Arts Degree and the Business Administration A.S. Degree through Weekend College. Learn more at:  why.spc.edu/weekend-college/

Call for proposals: Keys to Manhood seminar

On Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, St. Petersburg College will be hosting the seventh annual Keys to Manhood Seminar at the Allstate Center from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event, sponsored by TransAmerica Corporation, aims to close the achievement gap for males of color – from “cradle to career.” SPC is bringing together middle and high school students, in addition to mentors, educators, parents and community leaders from around the Tampa Bay area to emphasize the importance of education, best practices and choices to make as a man of color in today’s society. This year’s theme will have a heavy emphasis on the medical industry.

SPC is inviting community partners to submit proposals that focus on a range of engaging topics specifically for middle and high school students. If you’d like to submit a proposal, complete this survey by Dec. 14. Submit here: https://web.spcollege.edu/survey/27528
