The St. Petersburg Opera Company salutes our colorful local history with a concert performance of Sunshine City, The Musical, by Dewey Davis-Thompson and Tom Sivak, Sunday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
The hilarious Sunshine City, The Musical is based on the true story of John Lodwick, the first Public Relations director in America, and his outrageous media efforts including Sea Vamps, the Millionaire Bachelor Mayor and Chaos the Vaudeville Dog. Matt Acquard (Bad Jews) and Julia Rifino (Avenue Q) star as Jack Handsome and Flora Day, Sunshine Citizens who fall in love while concocting publicity stunts to draw tourists to St. Pete.
Directed by Vickie Daignault, the performance takes place at Opera Central, 2145 1st Ave. S. It is the closing event of the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance’s 2018 Festival of the Arts.
Mozart’s Don Giovanni, the opening production of the St. Petersburg Opera Company’s 2018-2019 season, continues at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the Palladium Theater. Tickets, $20, $40, $55 and $75, are available online at www.mypalladium.org, or by phone at (727) 823-2040.
