St. Petersburg General Hospital recently appointed three new members to serve on the Board of Trustees. Matthew Couch, MD, Carlos Labrador, MD and Nadarajah Nirmalan, MD will replace Ahmad Nematbakhsh, DO; Randy Shuck, DO and Harish Patel, MD. respectively, whose terms expired. Dr. Nirmalan will assume the position of Chief of Staff.
Matthew Couch, M.D., MPH

Dr. Matthew Couch is a general surgeon who currently practices in St. Petersburg, Florida. He has been on staff at St. Petersburg General Hospital since 2008. Dr. Couch attended the University of Connecticut where he earned an undergraduate degree in physiology and neurobiology in 1996. He attended graduate school at Emory University, earning a degree in Master of Public Health. Dr. Couch then joined his father, a PhD chemical engineer, in launching a business that took him to Australia for five years. After returning to the United States, he completed his general surgical training and residency at Texas Tech University, where he met his wife, Sherri.
Dr. Couch is board certified with The American Board of Surgery and holds certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Pediatric Life Support, Advanced Burn Life Support and received the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons Resident Achievement Award.
Carlos Labrador, M.D., FAAFP

Dr. Labrador is Board Certified in Family Practice. He received his bachelors with highest honors at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL in 1997. He graduated from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN with a degree of Medical Doctor in 2001 and became a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians in 2008.
Currently, he is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Florida Academy of Family Physicians and the Pinellas County Medical Society.
Dr. Labrador is married and has two children.
Nadarajah Nirmalan, M.D.

Dr. Nirmalan received his doctor of medicine degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada in 1991. He completed his internship and residency at Catholic Medical Center in Jamaica, NY in 1992. Both he and his wife, Ujwala Iyyunni, M.D., are board certified physicians in Internal Medicine, practice together and have three children.
