The Florida Holocaust Museum Announces 4th Annual Pass the Plate: The FHM Spring Cook-Off featuring Gabrielle Rossmer Gropman and Sonya Gropman

Local celebrity judges to attend and award prizes for their favorite dishes

February 26, 2018 [St. Petersburg, FL] - The Florida Holocaust Museum (The FHM) invites the community to come together in a celebration of family, history, heritage, and delicious recipes at the Museum's 4th Annual Pass the Plate: The FHM's Spring Cook-Off on Sunday, March 11th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Museum.

The FHM's Spring Cook-Off is free and open to the public, and honors the delicious recipes passed down from generation to generation. We invite the public to enter a family dish, taste the traditional recipes of others, or both!

The program will feature a cooking demonstration and sampling from authors Gabrielle Rossmer Gropman and Sonya Gropman. Their book, The German-Jewish Cookbook: Recipes and History of a Cuisine features recipes for German-Jewish cuisine as it existed in Germany prior to World War II, and as refugees later adapted it in the United States and elsewhere. Because these dishes differ from more familiar Jewish food, they will be a discovery for many people. The Gropmans-a mother-daughter author pair-have honored the original recipes Gabrielle learned after arriving as a baby in Washington Heights from Germany in 1939, while updating their format to reflect contemporary standards of recipe writing.

Those in attendance will have a chance to sample dishes and vote on their favorites to award a People's Choice Award, so participants in the contest are encouraged to bring sufficient quantities for the public to taste. Local celebrity judges will present a Judge's Choice Award. Few dishes can win, but everyone will leave with an appreciation for the stories and recipes that connect us to the past and inspire us in the present.

To submit your family dish and/or reserve your seat, please call 727.820.0100 ext. 301 as soon as possible to ensure your spot. No fish or shellfish recipes please and you must register your dish ahead of time.

Pass the Plate: The FHM's 4TH Annual Spring Cook-Off, will take place on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at The Florida Holocaust Museum. The Florida Holocaust Museum is located at 55 5th Street S, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
