St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Central Avenue “Beach to Bay” BRT Project Rating

FEBRUARY 14, 2018 | St. Petersburg, FL – On Wednesday morning, St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Chris Steinocher celebrated the news that the Federal Department of Transportation Capital Investment Grant report rated St. Pete’s Central Avenue “Beach to Bay” BRT project as Medium-High. This rating clears the bar for the project to remain eligible for federal funding in 2019.

“This is a major win for St. Pete and Pinellas County”, said Steinocher. “The commitment from the City of St. Petersburg is largely responsible for this exciting news. It is great to see our local government and transportation organizations work together and progress towards a real result.”

Capital Investment Grant projects must be rated a minimum of Medium-Medium to be eligible for the grant program. The Central Avenue “Beach to Bay” BRT will run on 1st Ave N and 1st Ave S from Downtown St. Pete to Pasadena and then on to St. Pete Beach and back.

“The potential for our beach visitors to be able to hop on a rapid bus to visit our downtown museums and other attractions without the worry of parking and traffic will be a gamechanger for our city”, continued Steinocher. “St. Pete is leading the way for innovative transportation solutions and I could not be more excited for the future.”
