SPC hosts Biomedical Engineering Technology Open House Feb. 19

St. Petersburg College will host a Biomedical Engineering Technology Open House from 4:30-6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19 at the Tarpon Springs Campus, BB-121, 600 Klosterman Rd. Come and learn about the medical technology industry and how to become a Biomedical Engineering Technician. At the open house, attendees can: 

  • Explore a career in medical technology
  • Learn about local and national job opportunities
  • Learn about program expectations and the courses offered
  • Learn about bachelor’s degree opportunities
  • Speak directly to faculty
  • Tour the lab

Titan Robotics Automation Challenge Lego Design Competition

St. Petersburg College Workforce Institute is hosting a Titan Robotics Automation Challenge (TRAC), a LEGO design and build competition. Participants can submit their best representation of St. Petersburg College. The contest is open to SPC students, faculty, and staff, as well as the larger community. The winner(s) will receive a $200 cash prize and a budget to purchase Legos to build their winning design. The winning design will be used during local and national robotics competitions, conferences, and other events. For more information, contact Susan Garrett at 727-341-4281.

Hospitality and Tourism Career Expo Feb. 20

St. Petersburg College will host a Hospitality and Tourism Career Expo from 4-6 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the Seminole Campus Digitorium, 9200 113th St. Attendees can discover career opportunities available in the Hospitality & Tourism industry. At the expo, there will be an information session about:

  • Tourism in Pinellas County
  • Career Paths in Hospitality & Tourism
  • Hospitality Education Programs
  • Skills Employers are Seeking in 2018

Engineering Technology and Building Arts Open House Feb. 21

St. Petersburg College will host an Engineering Technology and Building Arts Open House from 6-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Clearwater Campus, CC Building, 2465 Drew St. At the Open House, attendees can:

  • Explore careers in the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Building Arts fields
  • Learn about local and national job opportunities
  • Learn about program expectations and the courses offered
  • Learn about the associate's degrees in Engineering Technology and Building Arts
  • Speak to advisors and faculty
  • Tour the lab

VA Deputy Secretary to Speak at St. Petersburg College

The Honorable Tom Bowman, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, will be the featured speaker at the Institute for Strategic Policy Solutions’ Spring Forum on Feb. 15 at St. Petersburg College.

In his address, titled VA Reform: Modernization and Transformation, Mr. Bowman will discuss VA’s efforts to modernize and transform VA to meet veterans’ needs in the 21st century. Following his remarks, Mr. Bowman will join a panel of local VA officials and veteran advocates to discuss progress and challenges for VA in this transformation.

The forum, titled VA Reform: Fulfilling the Promise to Veterans, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Conference Center on SPC’s Seminole Campus, 9200 113th St. N. The Tampa Bay Times is media co-sponsor.

Upcoming PLCs and Drone Certification training at SPC’s Workforce Institute

The Workforce Institute at St. Petersburg College will be offering the following course in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in February.

  • Four-week UAS Remote Pilot (Drone) Certificate Prep Course on Feb. 20-March 20, 2018 (class held on four consecutive Tuesdays) 6-8:30 p.m., SPC Epicenter, Room 1-314, 13805 58th St. N., Clearwater, FL 33760.  No class on 3/6/18 due to Spring Break.  This four-week course is designed to prepare students to pass the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate exam.  The course will include UAS regulations, flight operations and restrictions, emergency procedures, crew resource management, radio communication procedures, aeronautical decision-making and judgement, and maintenance and pre-flight inspection procedures.  Registration can be completed by going to http://bit.ly/2rAPyGc. Career opportunities for students with drone training include business-entrepreneurship, military drone pilot, firefighter, disaster relief, search and rescue, law enforcement, oil and gas operations, border patrol, agriculture, package delivery, forestry, engineering, computer science, real estate, film and photography, and other industries.
