Rowdies Celebrate 40 Years of Soccer History
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (August 28, 2015) — The Tampa Bay Rowdies are celebrating 40 years of soccer history. Formed in 1975, the Rowdies are Tampa Bay’s original professional sports team, predating the Buccaneers, the Lightning and the Rays.
To commemorate the milestone, players, coaches, owners and staff from throughout the club’s history will join the Rowdies for a series of events planned for Labor Day weekend. The public is invited and encouraged to participate and reminisce at any or all of the activities.
Friday, September 4, 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Meet and greet Happy Hour at the Rowdies Den, 200 1st Avenue S., downtown St Petersburg.
Join former Rowdies, Wowdies and more for trivia games, autographs, prizes and food and drink specials. The Seminole Hard Rock girls will be on hand with games and giveaways. Open and free to the public (food and beverage available for purchase).
Saturday, September 5, 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Tailgate party at Al Lang Stadium parking lot. Musician Travis Williams will perform on the Seminole Hard Rock stage, plus a variety of games, giveaways and appearances by former Rowdies and Wowdies.
Tampa Bay Rowdies vs. New York Cosmos, kick-off at 7:30 p.m. Relive one of the most historic soccer rivalries and root on the Rowdies as they work to defeat the first-place Cosmos. At halftime, enjoy a special on-field presentation recognizing Rowdies coaches, staff, super-fans and legends including Steve Wegerle, Wes McLeod, Winston DuBose, John Gorman, Coach Gordon Jago and more.
Sunday, September 6, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Finally, cap off the celebration with Sunday Brunch at the Rowdies Den. Join current and past Rowdies players to watch Sunday's European soccer action. The regular breakfast menu will be available for purchase as well as specials on Mimosas and Bloody Marys.
